I pushed myself into a seated position, hissing as surges of pain shot through me. I sat still with my eyes tightly closed, breathing deeply until the pain subsided. Groaning softly, I looked around. No one else was in the room; I guessed they were in the kitchen, since their voices came from that general direction, though they were quiet, in an attempt not to wake me.
